History

After its establishment in 1995, the American Association for Upper Egypt (AAUE) became very quickly an important partner of, and an international donor for, the Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development (AUEED).

• On June 21, 1995, the AAUE was incorporated by U.S. citizens of Egyptian origins to answer the call of the AUEED.
  
• In April 1996, the State of California-Franchise Tax Board granted the AAUE an exemption from State income tax under its section of the Revenue and Taxation Code. In July 1996, the Internal Revenue Service granted the AAUE an exemption from federal income tax under section 501 (a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in Section 501 (c) (3).
• In 1998, 2000 and 2004 the AAUE received a total of $252,000 grant from the Ford Foundation for the Upper Egypt Children's Choir to develop the musical talents of children in the El-Minia governorate, and to help the choir expand to other villages.
  
• In November 2013, a new Board President, and a new Secretary were appointed to its Board of Directors, which is comprised of six Board Members. 
• In June 2019, the AAUE celebrated 24 years of fund raising activities (from individuals and corporations) in support of the poor children of Upper Egypt.
